The Lamu Cultural Festival

As one of the oldest and best‑preserved Swahili settlements‚ Lamu’s history is a beautiful tapestry woven from African‚ Arabian‚ Persian‚ Indian‚ and European influences. Its Old Town—an architectural wonder—is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Lamu Cultural Festival offers a rare opportunity to experience a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. With vibrant music‚ stunning art‚ dhow sailing traditions‚ exciting donkey races‚ and flavours of coastal cuisine‚ Lamu is truly a living museum of Swahili culture.

Through its narrow winding streets—where donkeys and dhows remain the primary modes of transportation—and its iconic coral‑stone‚ carved‑wood architecture‚ the island has preserved its heritage with pride. And the festival is where all of that spirit comes alive! Skyward Airlines is proud to sponsor this year’s festival which will take place on the November 28–30‚ and to support two of its main signature activities:

The Dhow Race and the Donkey Race. Let’s take you on a journey of what to expect…
